Blashford Birds

I also managed to photograph a few birds on the bank holiday weekend trip to Blashford Lakes nature reserve. All bar one are from around the Tern Hide, with the exception being from the Woodland Hide. First up the birds seen out of the Tern Hide.

A Mallard passed by followed by her ducklings, and this is a shot of a solitary duckling.

The other offspring are the Lapwing chicks, this one spotted on the bank to the left. Image heavily cropped as this is some way away.

My personal favourite is this Little Grebe (Tachybaptus ruficollis) in it’s summer plummage.

The other types of birds flying around at the moment are House Martins, Sand Martins, and Swifts. This selection has been compiled over the course of a couple of weeks with an extremely high ratio of missed shots to hits (lots of just water).

The House Martin (Delichon urbica)

The last shot of the post is from the Woodland Hide and is of a Greenfinch (Carduelis chloris).

The composition just kind of appeals to me, the symmetry with the other bird in the background.
