Alners Gorse & Lydlinch Common report
Visited Alners Gorse & Lydlinch Common today to see what butterflies were around. Alners Gorse is surprisingly wet underfoot, and there was very little activity, spotting a few Large Skippers (Ochlodes sylvanus) and a couple of Brimstones (Gonepteryx rhamni). For your information Alners Gorse has semi-wild horses grazing there at present.
Lydlinch Common wasn’t any better for butterflies, a couple of Large Skippers and 1 Small Heath, although there are a lot of orchids there. The lack of butterflies may have had something to do with the rain that started very shortly after arriving at Lydlinch Common.
