Insects at Blashford
Another weekend and another trip to Blashford Lakes nature reserve to shoot close up shots of insects. This reserve is turning out to be an excellent location for damselflies, particularly blues and blue-tailed, along with other assorted insects. In my opinion this is because the nettles etc are allowed to grow providing a good food source for all types of insects. There has been some cutting but not to extreme that I have seen carried out elsewhere.
This time around I managed to photo the male Azure Damselfly (Coenagrion puella), and 3 of the 5 colour forms of the immature Blue-tailed Damselfly.
Rufescens Blue-tailed Damselfly (Ischnura elegans)
Infuscans Blue-tailed Damselfly (Ischnura elegans)
Violacea Blue-tailed Damselfly (Ischnura elegans)
The other types of insects that I managed to get a decent shot of are a bee, an unidentified fly or beetle, and a pair of Green Nettle Weevils mating (Phyllobius pomaceus). The last two taking using the tripod.
