Beaulieu Heath, New Forest
The shots in this post are from a trip to Beaulieu Heath in the New Forest, near to Crockford stream. On an earlier visit to Crockford stream I noticed a lot of small birds perched on the surrounding gorse, and so this time around I took the Sigma 50-500mm F4-6.3 APO DG lens, which has a decent focal length, in addition to the Zuiko Olympus 90mm Macro F2 lens in the hope that this would be the case again in this mixture of heath and gorse habitat. However, the birds did not seem to be so accommodating now that I had lens to take their picture, and photo opportunities were limited to 3 different species.
1. A Male Stonechat (Saxicola torquata)
2. Believe this to be a Female Wheatear in summer plumage (Oenanthe oenanthe)
3. A Meadow Pipit (Anthus pratensis)
The Sigma 50-500mm F4-6.3 APO DG lens proved a worthwhile carry for a different subject, that of a Female Emperor Dragonfly ovipositing (Anax imperator). I would not have been able to get close enough to achieve this shot with the Zuiko Olympus 90mm Macro F2 lens.
I used the Zuiko Olympus 90mm Macro F2 lens for these.
A Male and Female Keeled Skimmer (Orthetrum coerulescens).
The Male
The Female
A Male Silver-studded blue butterfly (Plebeius argus)
A Small Blue butterfly (Cupido minimus)
and a Grayling (Hipparchia semele)
