Blashford Lakes recent birdlife
The weather over the last few weekends has not encouraged staying outside for long or been ideal for wildlife photography; it’s been dull, grey, wet and windy! This has resulted in heading to the local nature reserve, Blashford Lakes, and primarily using the hides to take cover from the elements, occasionally taking a photo of the resident birdlife.
Here is a selection of the birdlife sighted and photographed on the recent visits, beginning with the birds spotted on the lakes and finishing with the woodland variety.
A pair of Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula), the second photo capturing the males courtship display at the point where it has snapped it’s head upward over its back and pointed it’s bill skyward.
A Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus).
A couple of a Coot (Fulica atra), the 2nd of it eating.
A Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea).
Here are the woodland variety.
A Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major)
and finally a Robin (Erithacus rubecula)
