Dodds Wood to Ullock Pike
A ridge walk was completed even with tired limbs on the following day of the hike to Red Tarn due to a favourable weather forecast. This cicular route took us from Dodds Wood car park located beside the Old Sawmill tearoom to Ullock Pike and back.
From the car park we started out on wide and flatish paths through Longside wood towards Ravenstone Cottage before taking a right turn to start the ascent to Ullock Pike. The ascent out of the woods and up and along the ridge way path was hot, and at times unpleaseant with flying ants sticking to your sweat. This was compensated by the impressive views to be had on the traverse up.
This is the view looking towards Brassenthwaite a short while after coming out of the woods.
You also begin to get decent views of Skiddaw as you head to the beginnings of the ridgeway path.
Here is a picture of the path up to Ullock Pike.
At the top you are greeted by a Summit Cairn and breathtaking views on a decent clear day.

Looking back from whence we came.
The steep ascent up to Ullock Pike was the hardest part of the walk. The ridge path along Longside Edge to the Mound and onto Carl Side wasn’t too strenous as it is relatively flat in places, Carl Side is suprisingly rounded.
If you are fitter than I you have the opportunity to take the path to the summit of Skiddaw at Carl Side.
Instead my tired limbs told me in no uncertain terms to take the path down to White Rocks and then the winding paths back down through Dodd Woods to the car
