A New Chapter
For some time I have been thinking of improving my camera gear for taking wildlife photo’s, and finally took the plunge a couple weeks back. This has also seen a new chapter in manufactures, no longer exclusively using Olympus camera’s, I have now gone Canon. The new additions are the Canon EOS 7D Mark II camera body, the Canon 100-400 EF f/4.5-5.6 IS II USM lens and Canon EF 1.4x III extender.
The weather wasn’t very kind for the first outing, dull grey and occasionally rain! This does seem to be a recurring theme whenever new toys arrive!
This didn’t put me off in fact I decided this was an good opportunity to test out the 7D Mark II’s ISO & autofocus performance. I was particularly looking forward to trying out the autofocus feature as I have had to manually focus for several years due to the micro 4/3rds Olympus EM5 & EM5 Mk II autofocus struggling to work with the Sigma 50-500 4/3rd lens.
The autofocus worked like a dream, and overtime I am hopeful of achieving far better wildlife photo’s given the fact this will reduce the no. of missed opportunites caused by manual focusing.
I started out at ISO 2,500 and eventually finished at ISO 16,000 and here are the results with no post processing whatsoever.
ISO 2,500
ISO 3,200
ISO 4,000
ISO 5,000
ISO 8,000
ISO 10,000
ISO 16,000
