Mid Oct Macro
As you might have guessed from the title I am slowly but surely catching up with the processing of my photo’s for the year, and this is the last of this years macro bug and fly shots. All taken in October, which is unusual in itself as you don’t typicaly see bugs or flies about at this time. The cause, very warm weather.
All are from Blashford Lakes nature reserve, with the large majority of the very small creatures to be found on the hand rails of a short wooden bridge that crosses a small river.
These are the ones found on the bridge.
I also discoverd a couple of firsts for me.
A allacma fusca dark brown springtail. This particular springtail (Collembola) is a member of the Globular Springtail order Symphypleona, and is one of the larger globular springtails reaching a mighty 3.5mm in length (approx.).
And Giant Willow Aphids (Tuberolachnus salignus). The adults are identifiable by a tubercle on its back that looks like a shark’s fin, found close to some water and willows.
Some of them are winged.
Finally a couple of species of fly, beginning with Rust Flies (Psilidae)
That’s all the macro until next year.
