Macro compilation II

Another weekend gone, and another weekend spent shooting insect macro photo’s at Blashford Lakes nature reserve. Hence the title macro compilation II, though not so many images in this post compared to the last.

Without further ado on to the best shots from the 2 days starting with finding and photographing for my very first time a Southern Wood Queen Ant (Formica rufa).

I deliberately processed this next one with more shadow to make it appear darker, and titled it Dark Queen.

There were lots of other winged insects about including a solitary bee, Land Caddis fly (Enoicyla pusilla), a flesh-fly (Sarcophaga carnaria), and a yet to be identifed green eyed possible wasp.

The last photo of the post is of a pair of mating Cionus hortulanus weevils.
