Springtails
Here is my selection of springtail shots taken in March this year. All found under decaying logs and branches within Ramsdown wood near Hurn in Dorset.
My set up – Olympus EM5 Mk II camera, legacy Olympus 80mm F4 macro lens , attached to Olympus OM Telescopic Auto Extension Tube 65~116 plus 25mm extension tube, with Olympus FS-STF22 twin flashes with flash diffusion fixed to a manfrotto flash bracket.
I will start with the longer springtails known as elongated-bodied springtails (approx 3-10mm in length), and first this 2 image stack panorama of a black elongated-bodied springtail.
Next up is a yellow one, also 2 shots stiched into a panorama using Camera Raw.
and then this hairy one.
Now we move onto the other type found, the Globular springtails from the Order Symphypleona (approx 1-5mm length)
They are several different coloured varieties, including the purple Allacma fusca globular springtail
and this very pale yellow one
The last shot of the post is strange blue looking fellow.
