Walk up Catbells, Skelgill Bank & Maiden Moor

This is another of the June 2017 Lake Districk walks, a long, sometimes steep one traversing Catbells, Skelgill Bank & Maiden Moor. The day turned out to be a hot sunny one and with it quite a bit of haze to compensate for in the photo’s.

Much of the walk starting out near to Hawes End is reasonably straighforward, combating one steep climb after another though nicely interspersed with some flat or small incline sections..

I did struggle at one particular part, the last steep section to the summit of Catbells. Here there is no easy route up and steep drops on either side that I don’t particularly like!

Always a great sense of achievement when I manage to overcome my fears (once the shaking stops!), and the views from the top of Catbells are majestic on a clear day.

Next achievement of the day was making it to the top of Maiden Moor, a 1st for me. Much of this part is a gruelling very steep uphill trudge.

You can carry on to High Spy from Maiden Moor, though not for us that day, instead we returned back down turning right onto the path down to Manesty and then the path that runs along the side of catbells back to Hawes end.
