The Eagle’s Nest
This August/September I travelled to Austria and Germany, spending the 1st week in Salzburg, a city in Austria. One of the good things about Salzburg is that it is close to Eagle’s Nest, Hitler’s mountain retreat, and only involves 3 short bus rides to get there.
The 1st bus, the 840, takes you across the border into Germany and to the touristy town of Berchtesgaden, where you change at the train station hopping on to the 838 bus that takes you up to the Documentation Center, Obersalzberg. From here you get the special Eagle’s Nest bus up the mountain to the tunnel entrance which leads to the elevator.
Eagle’s Nest, locally know as the Kehlsteinhaus, sits on the summit of Kehlstein in the Bavarian Alps and affords you 360 panoramic views of the stunning scenery on a clear day. Here are some of the views.
which includes a glimpse of Lake Königssee.
There was even some snow at this time of year, and you are very close to some very sheer drops.
I also purchased the Olympus Digital 40-150mm F4.0-5.6 R lens for this trip to get more reach. This lens however has its faults, the main one is that it struggles to cope with haze creating a very bluish cast to the RAW images. This proved very difficult to rectify in both Camera Raw and Photoshop. This is the best result that I got after the post processing on this day.
Wonderful results and views Pete.
Thanks Chris
