Bees & A Fly

These photo’s of solitary bees and a Yellow Dung Fly (Scathophaga stercoraria) are from this years 1st couple of trips to the meadows beside the River Stour at Whitemill in Dorset.

The first visit was on Sunday 7th April and although the dandelions were out in flower the solitary bees were conspicous by there absence. I only manage to spot & photograph a couple.

The next visit was Saturday 13th April, and again not much joy. This may have had something to do with the fact that it wasn’t very warm at all.

All I manage to find was a single solitary bee on the day (pun intended!), which I think may be a Andrena chrysosceles solitary bee due to its very distinctive orange legs.

The only other insect that I managed to photo was this Yellow Dung Fly (Scathophaga stercoraria).
