Farlington Marshes Early Feb

A trip in early Feb to Farlington Marshes turned out to be a good idea. This HIWT nature reserve, located just outside Portsmouth, offers good habitat and roosting sites for waders and wildfowl, and on this particular visit I managed to get my first ever decent photo of one particular wader, the Spotted Redshank (Tringa erythropus).

The other waders sighted, though not photographed, included Godwits and a large flock of Golden Plovers. The wildfowl were also in their in abundance, the lion share of them Geese, both Brent Geese (Branta leucopsis) and Canada Geese (Branta canadensis).

There was this white goose amongst the crowd.

The other type of wildfowl photographed were a pair of Pintails (Anas acuta), although not too sure if the light coloured is a female or hybrid.

Aside from waders and wildfowl there was a couple of Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) about.
